The Tralee racecourse is approximately one and a half miles from the main town centre, off the Tralee-Killarney road. Tralee is basically a left handed round track of 1 mile 2 furlongs with a run in of 2 furlongs. The first racing ever recorded in Tralee was as far back as 1767.
The Tralee August meeting is the main meeting in the calendar and coincides with the International Rose of Tralee Festival. The August meeting goes on for four days of top racing, it is a great spectacle and worth going to at least once. There have been many top horses to grace the Tralee track including at least three Cheltenham Gold Cup Winners and the great Vintage Crop, Melbourne Cup winner.
